ABOUT
The Sleep Consultant
Meet founder, Shanel Deslauriers
“I began this business in 2020, based on my love for supporting other parents, and my passion for good sleep.
My first baby didn’t sleep well, and it placed a big strain on my relationship, and mental health. I learned firsthand how hard sleep deprivation can be for the whole family!
Through my own research, and eventually working with a sleep consultant myself, I totally transformed her sleep and my motherhood. This journey inspired me to begin helping friends with their sleep challenges, and eventually become certified as a Sleep Sense Consultant in April 2020.
Since then, my team and I have helped thousands of families find better sleep!
We provides evidence-based sleep strategies and guidance, and works closely with families to find sleep solutions THEY feel good about.
Each family we work with is special, and deserves authentic, compassionate support throughout their sleep journey. We passionately believe that every parent is a good parent!”
“Working with Shanel was the best parenting decision we have made! After months of very little sleep, we were barely functioning as human beings. The support, guidance, and science-based instruction we got from Shanel was a total game changer! We had tried sleep guides before, but having a real live expert made all the difference. I would 100% recommend working with Shanel to every parent who is struggling with sleep challenges. You don't have to go it alone!”

Shanel Deslauriers
FOUNDER & PEDIATRIC SLEEP CONSULTANT
Hi, I’m Shanel!
I am a momma of two, a science geek, and a lover of sleep!
I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba with my two girls (Nova Wilder, and Maven Bloom) and my awesome husband, Ryan. I became certified as a pediatric sleep consultant through Sleep Sense in 2020, which is one of only five programs recognized by the Association of Professional Sleep Consultants (APSC). I also have a BSc. and a Masters of Science Degree in Human Physiology & Pathophysiology, which heavily influences my sleep philosophy. All of my sleep solutions are evidence-based in nature, and are in alignment with current child development and pediatric sleep research.
I am honored to have been a part of thousands of families journeys to better sleep, and I absolutely LOVE doing this work. I can’t wait to support your family!

I absolutely LOVE to sleep, and I need a lot of it to function well! Every night we tuck the girls in and they peacefully drift off to sleep while Ryan and I clean the kitchen, watch Netflix, and reconnect after a long day. This quality time together in the evening is crucial for both our marriage, and our sanity! We go off to bed ourselves at around 10:00PM, and wake well-rested in the morning. Sleep is something of great value to me, and my family’s sleep routine allows me to be the best, happiest version of ourselves!
BUT it wasn’t always like this….
I struggled, too.
When I had Nova, I had no idea how to help her sleep! I struggled through it, but after 8 months went by with little change, she and I were both exhausted. Finally, out of desperation, I decided to make a change. I dove deep into the overwhelming world of baby sleep information and quickly realized that I needed an expert to help me process all the articles and books into a plan of action that was right for my baby
So, I hired a sleep consultant.
And let me tell you—it changed my life!
She provided me with a step by step, evidence based plan that worked! For the first time since my daughter was born, we were both getting the rest we needed. Suddenly, my motherhood was more magical, more joyful, and WAY less stressful.
Now looking back, I see that there is a definite before and after in my motherhood; before I knew and understood how baby sleep worked, and after.
Now, I want to help you.
Good sleep made such a huge difference for my family, and inspired me to start my own journey to become a sleep expert!

Helping families reach their sleep goals in a way they feel good about is always my ultimate goal! I am honored to have been a part of hundreds of families journeys to better sleep, and I absolutely LOVE doing this work.
If you are ready to find your sleep, let’s do it together! The first step is to book a free initial sleep evaluation call with me so that we can discuss the challenges you are experiencing with your little one’s sleep, and determine how best I can help.
Working with Shanel was the best decision my husband and I made for our little family. She is kind, professional and truly an expert. Her knowledge of sleep and babies in general was amazing. With her guidance and encouragement we helped our babe learn independent sleep skills and healthy bedtime habits. We cannot recommend her enough!

Julia Corcoran
PEDIATRIC SLEEP CONSULTANT
Hi, I’m Julia!
I’m Mom to a little boy, a lover of sleep, Halloween and reading!
I live in Paradise Newfoundland with my son Kellan, my husband Mike and our wild and woolly puppy Briar (she’s a Bernerdoodle).
I trained with Shanel in 2020 through Sleep Sense, and we’ve been working together, while separate, ever since. This year I’ve decided that it was time to combine forces and to bring my depth and breadth of experience to her team.
I have helped thousands of people get better, more reliable sleep while supporting their goals, and respecting their journey as a family. Their trust and success is what keeps me motivated to continue helping families, and to always find new and innovative solutions to sleep problems.
On top of my Sleep Sense Certification I also hold a Masters in Business Administration, a B.Comm and I am a major gift fundraiser at my local university - supporting education, research and students.

My husband and I struggled to have children, after 2 losses (one which was late term) we decided to try once more. We both grew up with siblings, and always wanted kids. After a high risk pregnancy, I got my Kellan. Born Dec 23, 2018 - he was, and still is my Christmas miracle.
After going through so much to have a baby I decided I was going to do everything ‘right’ once I got him. Now that I look back I realize that ‘right’ is a very subjective goal. The main thing I really wanted to do was to sleep, because I love sleep, and I know how important it is to my whole family.
But alas he was a nightmare sleeper. Up every hour, and I used every prop in the book to ‘help’. I even had 2 different sound machines going because THAT was going to solve the issue (spoiler: it didn’t). I was a shell of myself. I struggled big time mentally, and decided there had to be a better way. There was.
I decided to read the Sleep Sense book, and jumped in with 2 feet. I knew that we could do it together, and we did. After I taught Kellan how to sleep, and saw the incredible change it made I knew I could help families to avoid the ‘bad sleep’ trap of infant/toddlerhood.
He’s a ‘big kid’ now and still sleeps perfectly, and I credit it to the fact that I took the time in the beginning to look for a science based solution, trusted the process and got the results my family needed.
All of this to say, your child’s sleep CAN be fixed, it can get better. Parenthood doesn’t always have to be a struggle. I am passionate about this work, and fully believe in the transformative power that sleep can have on the whole family.

Julia was an absolute lifesaver! It would be hard to put everything into words how fabulous my experience was. Her individualized plan, knowledge, communication skills, promptness, and confidence makes the experience seamless and guarantees the support you need. If you listen to her; without a doubt it will work! My biggest regret was that I waited until my child was 9 months before I enlisted her expertise; I should of done it when he was 5 months old. If you are on the fence don’t be…..contact her asap!!

Jessica Freeborn
PEDIATRIC SLEEP CONSULTANT
Hi! I’m Jessica. I am passionate about helping families find better sleep!
I live in Ottawa, Ontario with my partner Jeff and our two happy sleepers, Luka and Nora.
As a mama, I experienced first-hand the baby and toddler sleep challenges that can occur and how important healthy sleep habits are, both for your children and your family. My own experiences led me to becoming a Pediatric Sleep Consultant so that I can help other families get the rest you need and deserve. I truly believe that a well-rested family is a happier family.
I have over 20 years of experience working with children, including roles as a Childcare Daycare Worker, an Academic Tutor for the Ministry of Education, and as a Nanny in Europe. I recently spent over a decade working for a youth-based education organization and currently work with the Government of Canada, disseminating science for the general public. I hold a Combined Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and English and an Advanced Diploma in Museum Studies.
I understand and appreciate that each family has their own unique sleep goals, and I’m excited to help you on your sleep journey!

Before having my oldest, I was constantly told by friends, family and even strangers on the street to “sleep while I can” implying that once the baby was born my partner and I would never sleep again.
Once our oldest was born, he would wake up every couple of hours. This went on for almost 2.5 years…well into his toddler years. Bedtime routines were hours long, with one of us laying on the floor next to his crib until he went to sleep. We were sleep deprived, about to welcome our second child, and felt completely lost. So we enlisted the help of a certified sleep consultant and it changed our lives!
Flash forward nearly 5 years and two kids later, my partner and I are well-rested (when we haven’t stayed up late the night before scrolling Instagram of course) and our family unit is much happier because of it.
Having experienced first-hand baby and toddler sleep challenges, I understand the importance of helping children gain independent sleep skills, both for their development and to support a well-rested family, and I’m excited to help your family on your sleep journey!
Jessica is amazing!! She helped us with our 10m old twins. She was so quick to reply, so helpful, patient, and kind. I would totally recommend. Thank you Jessica, for giving our household better sleep!
